Street Origin is operated as a personal project based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit streetorigin.uk, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR.
What data we collect
We collect minimal data. When you visit Street Origin, the following may be recorded:
- Usage analytics — pages visited, time on page, referral source, browser type, and approximate geographic location (country/region level). Collected via Google Analytics 4.
- Server logs — IP addresses and request metadata retained by our hosting provider (Vercel) for security and performance purposes. Retained for up to 30 days.
We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information. There are no accounts, no sign-up forms, and no comment systems on this site.
Cookies
Street Origin uses cookies set by Google Analytics to distinguish between visits and measure engagement. These are analytics cookies only — we do not use advertising, tracking, or personalisation cookies.
You can opt out of Google Analytics measurement at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using your browser's private/incognito mode.
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies via their settings. Refusing analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use this site.
How we use data
Analytics data is used solely to understand which content is useful, which pages perform poorly, and how to improve the site. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose. We do not sell data to third parties.
Third-party services
Street Origin uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- Google Analytics 4 — website analytics. Google Privacy Policy
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery. Vercel Privacy Policy
- Google Fonts — typefaces loaded from Google's servers. Google may log requests. Google Privacy Policy
- Wikimedia Commons / OpenStreetMap — historical images and map tiles. Requests are made directly to their servers when you load a page containing them.
- MapTiler — historical Ordnance Survey map tiles. MapTiler Privacy Policy
Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK resident, you have the right to:
- Request access to any personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of that data
- Object to or restrict our processing of your data
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
Given that we collect no personally identifiable information beyond server logs (which are deleted within 30 days), most of these rights will rarely be applicable. If you have a concern, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
Data retention
Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days by Vercel. We do not maintain any other databases of personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
